Progress, plans for 2018, etc.

Hi all! Coming to you from central Arizona where it's 65 degrees! Short sleeve weather! I know, I know...some of you are trying to keep warm! You have my sympathy believe me. This is the weirdest weather here. No rain since maybe August or September, certainly no snow. Last week, however, it dipped into 18 degrees in the early morning hours. That set off a rush of insulating pipes. It lasted just one day though! We're getting spoiled!

So I have progress to show, a new start, new stash, my reading plans, and plans for 2018.

I continued stitching on Christmas Garden up until this past Wednesday. It's coming along nicely! The before picture....

and now
This pic shows the correct color of the fabric which is 30ct French Vanilla. I have to admit that this fabric is driving me nuts! You can't see it from the picture but I'm either pulling my stitches too tight or something. It's not warped from pulling stitches too tight, it's just the fabric strands have all been squeezed together in between each leg. It shows up through each flower and vase. Of course, it's probably just me and when it gets framed, non-stitchers won't notice it's there! I know it's there, lol! It still looks real nice. My plans for the next couple of months don't include Christmas Garden. So it's going byebye for a bit.

I mentioned joining a Harry Potter SAL in my last post. Here is what I've stitched so far...
This is Class Schedule. On my dyed fabric that was to be with another project but I decided to use it on this SAL because it needs a big piece of fabric. The vertical stitched line is part of a square. There are more squares stitched on either side of my start, and I think, two more rows of 3 squares below all. On the 1st, we will get the first pfd of what is stitched inside the first box. There may be a total of 10 squares but I'm not sure. Justine, I noticed you're tempted although you've joined other SALs. I say just do it! Life is too short, lol. So in the next couple of days I will try to get another square stitched in, the very first one. It's nice to have this new start.

In the last couple of month, I have picked up a few new charts...

I don't know when I'll stitch these but at least I have them. Once again, Christmas and Halloween! I need to branch out more!

So for 2018 I've decided to do a few new starts, beginning with Class Schedule. Every few days I'll just do something else. Next week I want to start this...
My Confederate Gray fabric looks nothing like the models version. This looks like a fairly fast stitch.

I wish there were 5 more hours in the day for all the things I want to stitch!

I have my 2018 reading together...
Fiery Cross is what I'll begin reading. It takes me an entire month or two to get through these Outlander books! By the time I'm done with the series, I'm hoping her new one will be out. We shall see. The Widow of the South will be my 2nd reading, love it, and the rest are all new. I have to throw a scary one in there too with Daughters of The Witching Hill.

Kay and Sharon W have received their gift card funds from my giveaway last post. That is always fun!

The Mani di Donna contest winners have not been announced yet. I'm not on pins and needles about it. Being the holidays, people are just busy. Speaking of holidays, a chart I ordered has gone missing. Last known location is Iowa on the 15th. It was the Stacy Nash Winston, the mouse. So cute. So I'm hoping it'll show up soon.

Our Christmas was wonderful, lots of eating, chocolate, tamales, chocolate. Yeah, I can't look at chocolate at all. I received from my daughter a heating pad! And chocolate! Dinner with daughters boyfriends family. Good food.

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I thought I had more to talk about, guess not. I haven't been feeling the FFO bug so everything continues to sit and wait. I will be home for New Year's Eve trying to keep my cats calm because my town has chosen to set off fireworks twice! At 8:30 pm and at midnight!

Oh, yeah. I have plans to do some craft fairs and farmers markets in 2018. One of my cousins does candles and soaps and I do sewing and needle crafts. I have ideas to use up some of the cotton fabric I have, things that I won't use on stitched ornaments. I have some DIY pallet crafts in mind. A coworker has already cut up some pallet board and even loaned me his saw. I have some neat stencils to apply to the pallet board, just have to buy paints, sealers, sanders and sandpaper. Ideas and more ideas. I have a glass cutter and tons of glass bottles to make candle holders and pendant lights out of them. So yeah! Wish me luck!

So now I'm just blabbering!

Happy New Year everyone! Hope 2018 is the best yet for you all! Thanks for hanging with me throughout the year!

and the winners are....

KAY and SHARON W!!!

Congrats ladies! Contact me with your email address at ...........It takes at least a day for 123stitch to send you a gift card notification. By Thursday this week, you should see something! Thanks for playing everyone! Wish I had gift cards for everyone!

So how are you all? Keeping warm? Two weeks ago, our summer turned to winter in one day. I'm not sure we had an Autumn! I broke down and turned on the house heating and it's been on ever since! The older I get the colder I get. People are saying that for here, it's going to be a dry winter. So no white Christmas this year I guess:(

The stitching continues, however!

On December 1st, I picked up Christmas Garden by BBD....here is what I've stitched so far..
The lighting is not so good...below is the before picture...
I have already made a small counting error on this! At least I'm consistent! See the beginnings of the large flower at the right with two buds and the vertical stitches that look like a sideways J? They're 1 stitch too many. I'm not going to remove it because it won't throw anything off. I believe the light gold partial border below everything on the newer picture is the halfway point and I've almost stitched a quarter of the entire design. That huge flower is the center of the top portion. I'm enjoying this. A threat to Garden is a SAL that I joined. It's called Harry Potter-The Class Schedule SAL. Right now most people are stitching in the words Class Schedule and a bunch of boxes below it. I have the perfect fabric for it. I'm just clamping on the bit about starting this now but I really need to stitch on Garden more. The moral of this story is: never get on the internet first thing after waking up! I woke up, got on FB and someone was asking about this SAL. They had me at Harry Potter! I don't have a link for the SAL but if you search Armada Designs, you'll see it.

Before all that above, I had more done on the Christmas Carol Sampler. Here is what it looked like my last post..

and how it looks now...
I have turned the corner at the bottom. As you can see, I have the background houses in, the rest of the left-side border, and the top of the black carriage. I'm sure there are more snowflakes to stitch here and there. I'm more than halfway done. I'll be working on this more in January. Unfortunately, I ran out of the GAST Moonlit Path, the blue/gray of the big house. So I'm worried what a new skein will look like and hope the dye lot matches that one^.

I also FFO'd a little Christmas design and made it into a flange pillow via Vonna the Twisted Stitcher and her tutorial...
I don't know the name of it but words on my copy are Jura point de croix. Anyway, I love it! I made a mistake while cutting but it's not noticeable in the picture. First time making a flange pillow so this is my practice pillow. I love that kitty peeking behind the snowman. On the chart he has red eyes and red whiskers. Well, that won't do! So he has white eyes and whiskers now. I coffee dyed the ribbon at the top left. I have another flange pillow candidate so be watching for that. This was so easy and Vonna explains it very well. Thanks Vonna!

So that's is it! I wanted to announce the winners, show my progress and the one FFO. I have a work Christmas party next week so I have to find something to wear. I have Christmas cookies to make for gifts, a few more gifts to buy and wrap. Yesterday, I bought a few things and wrapped them. My daughter is 22 so she likes gift cards along with stocking stuffers. For my brothers who live in Phoenix, I send them gift cards. They say not to buy them anything; well, I'm the big sister and I do anyway!

Stitching-wise-I'll keep stitching on Christmas Garden while fending off Harry Potter and his influence! This 53 year old loves Harry Potter! I may use the last week of December and this year to start the HP SAL. We'll see...

I'll be back the end of December with an update on this past year. I had lots of finishes too. Happy about that.

So I'll take this time to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and happy days!!

Stuff

How's everyone doing? Good I hope. We have more fall-like weather here, finally!

I've been busy so get comfy! I have progress, a finish, FFO's, and experiments! Picture heavy.

Progress first: I'm still in the Christmas mode and decided to stitch on two of my bigger Christmas WIPs-Christmas Carol Sampler by the Primitive Hare and Christmas Garden by BBD. I have been stitching on the Primitive Hare piece every waking moment! I love this thing; I stitch on it in the morning before work, stitch on it in the evening before bed, on the weekends sometimes to midnight!, etcetera, etcetera! Here it is..
That top border is where it stops and it's almost a foot long! A biggie for sure. On the left border, count 7 more flower thingees down and that's where it'll end. The bottom border is more of the brown flowers matching up with the length of the top. I love that lamp post, btw, very Victorian England. I'm using the Old Salem linen that Isobel the designer makes and sells, 30ct. What you see above is almost half of the design. Love it! I'll continue stitching on this to the end of this month. Here is what this looked like before...
So yeah, lots of stitching going on.

December 1st is Christmas Garden's time in the snaps. Here is what progress I had before...
I'm looking forward to stitching on this. Both projects won't be finished for this Christmas but I know that Christmas Carol will be finished in January or February. Love affair!

My other Christmas piece I was working on in the last post, Vixen at Crow Creek by Pamela Dervarits is done and dyed...
Coffee dyed and then baked for a bit. I love how it turned out. I didn't want to go too dark but I'm happy with the coloring. I'm not sure how I'll FFO this, try a flange pillow using Vonna's tutorial, or frame it.

Another finish I have is this ornament found in the 2010 JCS ornament issue...
Stitched on 36ct something linen, it's a nice size. I left off the bottom border that looks like the zig zag one on the right. Very pretty colors.

I have two FFOs, stitching that was finished last year..
This is fleur d'orleans by Ink Circles. I just closed it up yesterday and tried to sew on a thick purple chenille trim but it wasn't happening. I'll go back to gluing! (Carol!!) The backing fabric is a batik in the colors of orange, yellow, and purple. I'm in a pillow mood lately.

The next one is found in one of the Primitive Punchneedle and Stitching magazine (I don't think that is the correct name but I think most of you know what it is). It's designed by The Snowflower Diaries...
Is that cute or what? At the last moment I added that big fabric flower that I found in a package of two for $1.00 at Walmart. Such a beautiful sentiment. The back fabric is the same as that bit at the right.

My contest entry for Simona of Mani di Donna's FB contest is finished and FFO'd...
I don't think anyone at the contest page knows I have a blog so here it is. I sewed on the sparkly and hairy trim. I stuck a little sticky rhinestone on the front for a star but I feel like it needs something else. It's too late to stitch in some snowflakes. I'm thinking of buying the Mill Hill metal snowflakes and add a few. I don't want to overdo the sparkle though! The backing fabric is so pretty and I made sure to have the Cardinal right in the middle. Our submission photo to the contest needs to happen on the 21st of December so I have time to decide on snowflakes or not.

See the fabric right above that the ornament is sitting on? That's my experiment. I have a PSS chart called Farmstead Christmas and on FB I saw a stitcher had stitched it on a PTP fabric called Cauldron and I thought it looked great! I decided to dye a piece of Edinburgh linen to look somewhat like the Cauldron...
I 'borrowed' this picture from FB. I knew I needed gray and orange RIT dye to look like the above. Here's my version...
This is a fat half and the pattern should only take up half of this fabric. It turned out great but just a tad darker than the Cauldron. I know I'll have to change out some of the floss colors for this but I want to   start this after the Christmas Carol Sampler is done.

I also dyed this piece of Monaco, not sure of the count. I measured it and it comes out to 30ct but it may have been 32 with some shrinkage. I baked both pieces also...
I named them Bruise! The fabric was white while the linen above was cream. Not much difference in the dyed color. Walmart didn't have orange so I bought a red and yellow to make orange. The colors are Graphite, Racing Red and Daffodil yellow in liquid RIT. It was so much fun to dye. I got the idea of how to do it from two flosstubers-Yany Novoa and Leticia (Crafty Curator).

I had a question from Bonnie on the last post about ruching ribbon. Bonnie, I used Vonna the Twisted Stitchers tutorial here- http://tts-learntofinish.blogspot.com/2012/02/rusched-ribbon.html

The ribbon I used is just one ribbon, not two. Sewing the running stitch onto this kind of ribbon was hard as it's an open weave. A running stitch on a ribbon like grossgrain and those with solid material would be better. Then I sewed it onto the side seam of the pillow. Be sure to use thread for your running stitch that matches your ribbon.

Thanks for hanging around to the end because here is the fun part! A giveaway to celebrate my 7 year  blogging anniversary! Two 123stitch gift certificates for $35 each to spread the cheer instead of a big $70 one although it would be fun to spend that on stitchy stuff, right?! I started this blog on the 21st of December 2010. Two rules: you must be a follower and you must mention in the comments that you would like a chance at a gift certificate by December 9 at 11:59 pm Arizona time. You'll have time to 'buy' yourself stitching gifts for Christmas! You can be from anywhere in the world and hopefully you have an email address because 123 announces that you have one waiting for you by email. Good luck to you all!

I believe this is it. Thanks for stopping in and leaving comments, I read them all.

Happy Thanksgiving to those of you in the U.S. I am going to the home of my daughters boyfriends parents for Thanksgiving this year but still cooking a small turkey breast when I get home for turkey sandwiches and turkey and black bean enchiladas, yummy! To everyone else, have a super stitchy week!

See you all in December!

Go Directly to Christmas, pass Halloween and November

My title is a little play on the Monopoly game. Stitching-wise I did go directly to Christmas, as you'll see!

How's everyone? It's almost the end of October and it was 84 degrees yesterday! What?! The good thing about these temps is not having to turn on the heat.

Good news! I returned to work last Monday, not yesterday, and it kicked my butt! Sore back, especially my lower back where contact was made with the concrete floor. It's not the actual fracture site but my tailbone area that is still tender. Yesterday, it wasn't too bad. It's just a matter of getting back in the swing of things.

So I had a couple new starts-one for a contest, two FFO's, a project bag sewed up, a finish.

Here's my freebie finish for Black Cat Inn by Primitive Betty's..
and the back..
My first time ruching ribbon! Turned out fine and was time consuming sewing it on. Yes, I centered Trick or Treat on the back. And that folks was my last Halloween stitching. It's kind of strange as I love Halloween but I think it was all the big Halloween finishes I had the last 2, 3 months, like Jack's Bash and Halloween Revelry that got me wanting to do something else. I think next year I may stitch a Halloween ornament a month.

And another FFO...
Peace by Misty Hill Studio. Another ornament with no idea in mind as far as finishing it. I do like how the stars in the fabric go with the color of Peace.

I also sewed up a project bag...
Me and my lousy sewing! See the sides? I'm just a lazy sewer. I don't measure twice and cut once; I measure once and then cut too many times. There are some people out there who make gorgeous project bags with all the bells and whistles and they sell them. That's well and good. I have no plans to sell mine!

Onto Christmas!

This pattern has been in my stash since 2014. Vixen at Crow Creek..
Trying to find a completed picture of this is near impossible. This one I found at Pinterest. Designed by Pamela Dervarits. She used to have a very nice blog with free patterns and ephemera for prim items and had a few cross stitch patterns for sale. If you google her name, you'll find her blog. She no longer does anything on it. I have one other design of hers and some craft ideas. Below is my version of Vixen..
I changed a few colors on this. A through L was to be stitched in black but I thought it was too stark for this primitive design (now I'm questioning my color for the deer!), so I used a gray/green color for that part of the alphabet. I like the color someone used for the deer in the Pinterest photo. My fabric is 30ct Beige linen. I'll be coffee dyeing this later so all the colors should get muted a bit. I'll add the snowflakes at the end. You can see the roof coming in on the right. This is my nighttime stitching.

Here's my daytime stitching. This is the contest start. An Italian designer named Mani di Donna is running this contest on FB. On black 32ct linen, taking a page from Stitching Dreams Carol's book!
The designers name is Simona and on December 21 she will pick two finishes to win. The winners get so many euros (don't know the exchanges) worth of her designs and also an extra package of fabrics and flosses. Even if I don't win, I still have an ornament for my tree. So be sure to watch this space for my FFO of this!

Uh, what's next? Oh yeah, here's my finish of that Pine Mountain kit that came with my exchange..
I have a pumpkin button to add to the blank spot between O and Q. This is basically my only Autumn finish! I'm probably going to add a piece of fabric on the right that will match the greens in this. Stitched on 14ct! That was a nice change after stitching on 35 to 36cts.

Another finish is this design by Maggi Co's Village, Rojo y Verde (red and green)..
Hope it's not blurry on your end. This is so cute and I enjoyed stitching on it. It's big and I'm thinking of this as a wall hanging with some season appropriate fabric sewed on the sides. After my mess of a project bag, maybe that's not such a good idea!

I now have 25 finishes on the year! Happy happy.

I almost made a Flosstube video too! As it got to the 90% upload point, I stopped it. I stopped it because I kept forgetting the names of the designers, the fabric I had stitched things on, and other info. I introduced myself at the beginning and then showed my WIPs being worked on and then had a finish parade and used up 40 minutes, and that was half of my finishes! Haha. A finish parade is showing all your finishes. Floss tubers have WIP parades too. One other thing I'm not happy about is using my real name on a video. So I just need to go and open up another YouTube account in a fake name. In this day and age, you can't be too careful with using your real name for all the world to see. Another thing was that I wasn't happy with how I had my phone set up. I was looking down into it. I'd like to have it sit where I'm looking at everyone straight on. Also I kept having to flip my hair back! I needed a haircut anyway before this and it's getting long. So once I get all these things fixed, I may give it another try. Evidently, I have no trouble talking to a red button!

I think that's it. The month went by fast since my last post. I tried Sunday but my internet was out almost the entire day. I took care of some chores this morning and now just enjoying some downtime.

I'll keep stitching the two Christmas things, and once I'm done I'll start something else Christmas!

Take care, everyone! Glad you stopped by!

Finishes, exchange goodies, etc.

Hi all! First day of Fall and it sure feels like it around here as it's just 66 degrees.

I want to thank you all for your well wishes! You're all a great group of ladies!

I want to comment on a few of your comments:

Barb, thanks for the laugh! I remember when you injured your back but I didn't know it was like mine. Mine could've been worse, for sure as there is no surgery involved. No more identical injuries for the two of us!

Carol, in doing studying on compression fractures, I have read that osteoporosis can make it easier to get that type of injury. How awful. It's a reminder to us as women that we need to watch for that as we age. So sorry that your mother is dealing with some health issues.

Daffycat/Sharon, I cannot imagine how that felt to fall on your knees from 3 steps up. I cringed when I read that. Sounded painful.

Kaye/Kaisevic, you're welcome. If I could, I would love to buy the entire seasons of the Gift of Stitching magazine. That would make a perfect gift, I agree.

I am awaiting the call to get the CAT scan and dealing with the insurance company for workmans compensation, well, let's not go there! I'm sure we've all had a time of it dealing with the government:(

Today is a wonderful day and even more so because I got my exchange package! Joanie Lintz sent me all this wonderful goodness..
I am already stitching the little Pine Mountain design there at the left above the Scary Mouse pattern. I love ceramic pumpkins and this one is so cute. She made the project bag that is under everything. Take a look at this box with what I think is a Bent Creek or Trilogy pattern on it...
I also received some chocolate which is gone already. I love it all. Joanie, thanks again for these wonderful gifts! Happy mail on the 1st day of Fall, perfect.

I finished Halloween Revelry, yay!
The fabric is a bit washed out here. In real life it's more brown/orange. I wasn't sure of the fabric color when I first started but now I think it's great. The whole bottom half of this design have a bunch of counting mistakes but I made it work! It's hard to tell!

I also started and finished this little freebie...
The fabric is a raw or natural linen and dyed orange by me. I made a few changes to the design, pulling in the cat on the right because I like symmetry. Designed by Pamela Dervarits whose blog is now defunct. You may be able to find it though by Googling her name. The witchy fabric is what I'll use to make a pillow.

So that's it. I'll continue to stitch on the Pine Mountain design, shouldn't take me long. I'll continue to oooh and awww over my exchange gifts! Continue to wait to hear from the insurance company, ugh.

Take care, and have a great weekend!

Apparently, I can't fly:(

Hi all! Long time no see! I've had some things going on but I'm back. I have a finish, some stash, progress on a WIP, and a few things I want to show you. Picture heavy so get comfy.

As for my title, all kidding aside, I can kind of joke about it now but not much. August 24 I was doing my usual thing at work, filling orders because I work in a warehouse. For the last 9 or 10 months I have climbed ladders of all sizes with no problems. Why all of the sudden on that day has me just scratching my head. I fell off a ladder, actually missed the last 2 or 3 steps, backward, landing point blank on my butt. When I hit, I knew I did something to my back. I immediately couldn't hardly breathe as I probably knocked the wind out also. After talking with emt firefighters and then the ambulance crew, took my first ambulance ride to the ER. I thought if I went in the ambulance they could shoot me up with painkillers because boy, was I in pain. Couldn't hardly stand or walk. I have a compression fracture on one of my vertebrae, T12 it's called. My 3rd doc appointment yesterday, I finally got to see my X-ray film and he pointed out my vertebrae that is squished down. He says it's not a bad one but bad enough. Needless to say I haven't been back to work. I had so many physical restrictions that my job didn't have anything for me to do. I've been going stir crazy! After 2 weeks I started feeling better and could get around much better. Now in my 3rd week, I pleaded my case to the doctor that I can bend over, reach over my head, carry heavier things with no pain. I want to go back to work! Haha. Nope doc says. So next week I have a CAT scan to see anything else that a regular X-ray couldn't and still home rest for another two weeks. My problem is that I'm impatient and hate being incapacitated. My daughter had been my caretaker, buying me groceries and making sure I was okay. The first two days I couldn't keep anything down so I hardly ate. I also couldn't sit very long without changing position so my stitching suffered. When I could sit still for longer, I made up for time! I really think I dodged a bullet because it's a cement floor that I went down on. It replays over and over that it could've been worse.

Okay, onto some more pleasant things!

When all that happened, I was working on These is My Words by LHN. Here's the before...

And now..
Stitching in the wagon canvas is brutal so I go back and forth with the wagon part and the canvas to break up the monotony of the covering. It was coming along good until I got bit by the Halloween bug!

I picked up this WIP by PSS called Ghoul Tidings found in the 2013 special JCS Halloween issue. I know it's out as a stand alone chart now. It's a finish!
Before all I had was the very first penny? at the top left. I had tunnel vision with this. I can't remember what the dark color is, it's all WDW though. I ran out of that color at half of the cart and luckily found another skein in with some kitted up projects that was nearly identical. Another thing is the leaves called for a more greenish floss but mine came out that brownish-green color. Oh well. I love it and those cats!

After that was done, I picked up Halloween Revelry by the Primitive Stitcher that is found in the October 2009 JCS Halloween preview issue. It has been a new start/WIP since publication! I've gone to town on it. Here's the before..
This is from May of this year. Below is where I'm at now...

Love it! That witch took 3 days to stitch. I love her green skin and her outfit as she's out trick or treating. I still have to go back and stitch in the border cats eyes in that orange color. Also calling for WDW floss, I ran out of Charcoal for the black and once again lucked out as I had another skein of it. I'll be stitching this until it's finished, hopefully by the end of this month since it looks like I'll be home still. Aaarggh.

I also stashed just a little..
That Sunflower Seed design has been a want to stitch of mine for awhile so was glad to nab it. And that Primitive Betty sewing book is wonderful.

I also received my giveaway prize from the Flosstuber Kindred Stitcher, a WTN & T chart..
I am searching for the perfect fabric for it, a nice pale white, maybe a vintage lentil from Lakeside?

Couple months ago I downloaded these E-magazines from Etsy. I'm sure some of you remember them. They're found at Etsy at the shop called DesignsbyKirstenE, all one word. You can buy and download a months issue for $3 or buy the all the seasons for $99, I think. So here they are..
This one I bought just for that The Sampler Girl design on the cover. Now I've never read any of the Jane Austen books but I love the colors on this sampler.

This is one of their Christmas ornament issues..
Cute ornaments in this one. The next one I bought for the cover project...

Isn't she pretty! Love the teals and the light greens on this and I have a perfect linen for it.

I was going to wait to post so I could show what I received from my exchange friend with the latest Dixiesamplar exchange but I haven't gotten it yet. I will show what I sent to mine though. I can never remember to take a picture of all the things I put together but I do have pictures of two of the things I made. Judy has received her goodies. Here they are..
A paper mâché round box that I painted orange first and then black, then scuffed it up. That design is Pumpkin + White by Bent Creek. Then I cut woolfelt and sewed on the white wool for white pumpkins and stitched in vines with daisy stitch leaves. Then cut out the window for the design to show through. Glued the black trim around it after attaching the striped ribbon around the lid. Below is the inside..
I made it puffy on the bottom with batting and then the fabric. I attached the ribbon and button over my trim where it meets because I'm horrible meeting ends! It turned out very nice and Judy loves it.
I also did one of those pocket watches from WTN & T..
Turned out great also! Just hope the EEK stays put! Good thing I had stitched and made all these before my accident.

So I think that might be it! I'll continue stitching on Halloween Revelry. When I'm finished with that I think some Halloween ornaments are in order.

Take care everyone. Be careful in everything you do. I'm not sure how I'll take having to climb ladders when I go back to work but it's a fear that I need to deal with. I'm mortally afraid of falling, even walking into a store, etc. See you next time!
