This and that, and a magazine/fabric giveaway!

Greetings from a blustery, somewhat wet central Arizona. It's finally Fall here after temps in the high 80s and 90. I now have to pull up a blanket in the early mornings. Woohoo!

Since I'm stitching feverishly on my giveaway project, this post is about all sorts of stuff.

A couple weeks ago, Ranae of the Stitch to Stitch blog, had a giveaway of skull stick pins she had made and I was one of the Winners! Yay for me!
You just have to have a hot pink skull in the house for Halloween! She also sent the cute Dragonfly pin. So cute..Thanks again, Ranae!

I also expanded my horizons by downloading that Xstitch app. It was $2.99. I watched a movie while entering some of my charts and 114 threads! That was just my GAST and Classic Colourworks threads. If anything, this app reminds you of just how crazy we really are about stash! Before, I could go happily through my life not knowing exactly how many charts I have! Psst, I have 34 and more that I haven't entered. But this hobby keeps me out of trouble so I'll keep it!

This past Saturday, my daughter and I headed to a farm some 30 miles from here to pick veggies. For $3 a bag, we couldn't pass it up. Here's what we got: chilies, all kinds, zucchinis, green tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and big tomatoes. I'm going to can a lot of it. Here's a story that may be funny to you but not me at the moment. I found a recipe for Cowboy Candy, really candied jalapeños. I sliced up 2 1/2 lbs. of jalapeños and am now paying for it! I didn't use gloves and now my hands and fingertips are burning and tingling, my eyes are burning and my face. And this is the second day! I did get 2 1/2 pints of this candy but I've had enough of hot for the time being! The moral of this story is: Wear Gloves when cutting chillies!

Part of our trip was to test this out..
My new ride! A Honda Civic and it drives great. My old jalopy had almost 250k miles on it so it was time. The old car's radio didn't work and turning on the AC made the engine do crazy things. And in AZ., you need AC! The older I get, the less tolerant I am of hot.

Congrats for reading all that because now, here's the Giveaway..
You get the magazine which is the Cross Stitcher, not the UK magazine, October 2003 and has 7 Halloween designs. This design takes the 14ct Purple Potter aida and the fluorescent floss for the moon. I also stitched another design from this magazine...
And no, this is not in the giveaway! I couldn't bear to part with it! Follower or not, stateside or overseas, I'll pick a name if there are more than 1 person interested in the magazine/fabric/floss this Saturday the 10th. Good luck! FYI-this magazine has been around, it's not perfect!

So there you have it-no personal stitching of mine in sight. I am chomping at the bit to start some Halloween smalls and Christmas. I spent sometime this a.m. pulling fabrics and charts for stitching in these last 3 months. Oh yeah, my stitching mojo has come back with a vengeance!

Next time, I'll show what I made and sent to my recipient in the Halloween Harvest Exchange 2015 hosted by Dixiesamplar/Terri. I'll be receiving my goodies sometime this week so I'll show that off too.

Thanks for stopping in and commenting! Hoping the best for those in SC and places affected by Hurricane Joaquin. The flooding looks horrendous! Take care..

  1. So sorry to hear about your hands. When my son was a little baby I did the same thing. I had to call a neighbor to come and help with him because my hands burned so badly. What a nice give away, very generous of you.

  2. Yay for the stitchy bug but boo for being on fire! I miss canning I used to do it with my Grandma a lot. We had a large garden we had a lot of veggies in so we canned tomatoes, made our own pickles and had some of the biggest pumpkins on the block. I miss that. Congrats on the new car I did the same thing with having no A/C in Florida. It was awful so I'm glad you have something that works. My new car was amazing. I love the little skull pin it's adorable :) I would love to be entered in your drawing thanks!

    1. I learned the hard way, Gracie! I really didn't think jalapeños would do this to me. Next time, gloves!

  7. The witch is cute =) I would love the floss and magazine. Try rubbing lemon juice on your hands, I know it is great for onions. You could also try mixing baking soda and vinegar together and rubbing it on your hands.

  13. Love that Witch pillow so cute, the scull pin is adorable and in pink so funny, love it.
Your new ride looks pretty good, I have a vehicle that is 11 years old but with under 100,000, miles so it will be a while before I get a new car.

    Blessings
    Happy Stitching.
